The final phase of the Bank Station Capacity Upgrade was officially opened today. This phase sees the opening of a new station entrance at street level providing direct access to the Northern line from Cannon Street, with new lifts connecting the Northern line and DLR platforms to the new station entrance.
The overall scheme included the creation of a new wider southbound platform for the Northern line; the existing platform has been converted into a concourse in addition to new direct links to the Central line and DLR platforms being provided to ease congestion and provide better connectivity within the station. These areas opened last year.
The opening of these entrances completes 10 years work on the Bank Station Upgrade, increasing capacity through the station by 40%. The project delivered a wealth of improvements to this major transport interchange and vital amenity for the City of London.
