Giles Martin has led several of the practice’s high-profile commercial and infrastructure projects. He is inspired by precise construction detailing and material technology and is motivated by the possibilities of developing these themes on large, complex urban developments.
He has extensive experience in London on planning applications and construction projects, working closely with planning departments and clients to achieve consent, and leading the scheme through to completion. One of his most challenging ventures has been heading up the design team on 21 Moorfields, an important scheme above Moorgate station in the City of London, completing in 2024. This integrates the Elizabeth Line station - also by WilkinsonEyre - with a new headquarters for Deutsche Bank.
Giles recently completed a pair of glass bridges that connect 1 and 2 New Street Square for Deloitte. He has also headed up design teams for various TfL and HS2 masterplan projects, and BBC's Media City in Salford - which combines office, broadcasting and public spaces.
At the heart of Giles' design approach is the use of contemporary systems and new materials to add an important dimension to the design repertoire – one that results in enhancing the experience of architecture in people’s lives.
