St John's Wood Square – The Riding School

St John’s Wood Square is one of London’s most highly anticipated residential developments in recent years, located on the site of the former St John’s Wood Barracks, home to The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery.

At the centre of the development is the Grade II-listed former Riding School, which WilkinsonEyre is meticulously restoring and repurposing to become The Riding Club, a private residents’ club offering health, wellness, leisure, and sports facilities alongside concierge services.

Originally constructed in 1825, the Riding School formed the heart of the cavalry barracks, serving successive military institution including the Corps of Gunner Drivers, the Cavalry Riding Establishment, and later, The King’s Troop, Royal Horse Artillery. For more than a century, it stood as both a centre of equestrian excellence and a defining architectural landmark, embodying a significant chapter of the site’s military and historical legacy.

Across the wider 5.5-acre site, St John’s Wood Square will offer a collection of 120 expansive lateral and duplex residences, penthouses and townhouses. On completion, The Riding Club will become a sanctuary for residents, designed to enhance and support health and wellbeing, encompassing a considered array of amenities including a state-of-the-art wellness centre, a 20-metre swimming pool, spa, sports facilities, private dining areas, children’s play area, a screening lounge and a dedicated concierge service.

Externally, RHS Chelsea Flower Show winner Andy Sturgeon Design is designing St John’s Wood Square’s 2.6 acres of landscaped gardens. Conceived as an extension of the architecture, the outside spaces provide peaceful, perennial havens where residents and their families can connect and recharge.
