Battersea Power Station Award Wins

Battersea Power Station has received numerous awards this month including:

• WAF 2023 – Completed Building: Mixed-Use

• NLA Awards 2023 – Best Overall & Conservation

• WAN 2023 – Bronze Place, Multi-Use

• Structural Awards 2023 - Retrofit

• Architects’ Journal 2023 – Highly Commended in Mixed-Use

• LABC Building Excellence 2023 - Best Community or Public Building

• Mapic Awards 2023 - Best Urban Regeneration Project

Peter Murray OBE, Co-founder of NLA and Chair of the judging panel said: “The selection of WilkinsonEyre as architects for the renovation was a clever move by the developer. The architects’ understanding of the industrial aesthetic has delivered an end result that responds to its history but provides an efficient and elegant environment for modern use, while at the same time retaining the impact of its awesome scale."

Sebastien Ricard, Project Director said: "Winning these prizes for Battersea Power Station is a great recognition of the importance of conserving and respecting our building's heritage. It demonstrates that there is an exciting future for our city's building fabric, through careful, respectful, and innovative transformation, we can make them more sustainable for the future."

The AJ commented that the revitalisation of this London landmark was commended for the sheer scale and complexity in the mix of uses and programme that had been woven into and accommodated within its shell. They range from retail to residential to event and leisure and office uses – the latter including Apple’s new European HQ.

‘It’s like a dream student project,’ said one AJ judge. ‘The section is amazing: like early Koolhaas,’ observed another. In particular, the creation of amenity spaces and gardens for the housing units on the roof was praised. ‘Amazing how it has all been resolved.’
