"Not always celebrated, the “bottoming out” of the high-speed box at Old Oak Common has started to give a sense of the scale of a significant part of the station. Enclosing the high-speed platforms, this is where muscular civil engineering is at its most bold. Given the highly visual impact of the structure, WilkinsonEyre has worked closely with engineers and contractors to develop and refine how these elements are shaped and connected to soften the hard orthogonal geometry." Bosco Lam, Project Director
The 850m station box reaches 20m below ground and is where the six platforms for HS2 trains will be located.
When completed, Old Oak Common station will be one of the largest transport interchanges in the country and the largest subsurface station ever built in the UK.
