WilkinsonEyre has been appointed by New World Development to revitalise the Grade I listed State Theatre building, as well as the design of a new adjoining mixed-use development. The State Theatre, opened in 1952, played an instrumental role in bringing arts and culture to the public at a time when there was a lack of large-scale cultural event venues.
The design conserves the iconic architecture, including the parabolic exoskeleton truss and mural relief, and will transform the derelict building into a new cultural events venue.
