With base build by WilkinsonEyre, developed by Landsec, and interior fit-out by TP Bennett for Deutsche Bank, the landmark London headquarters creates an employee-focused workplace reflecting an organisation placing genuine value on the wellbeing of its people, while also delivering positive local and environmental impact.
A feat of engineering, the project demonstrates the true value of good design in transforming the highly constrained site above Moorgate Station into a vibrant, functional part of the city. The key to unlocking the development lay in its innovative foundation solution, with the entire building bridging Moorgate station.
Spanning 550,000 sq ft across 17 floors, the design creates a light-filled, highly efficient workplace. From the gym and wellness suites to biophilic interiors, external terraces and abundant natural light, spaces for fitness, reflection and restoration are woven throughout the workplace. The connection to natural light and fresh air, alongside the choreography of movement through the building, provide opportunities for activity, openness and interaction throughout the day.
The judges said: “The integration of architecture, engineering and interior design was key for such a large and complex project above a major National Rail interchange. Employee wellbeing and flexibility underpinned the design, with a variety of health and wellness spaces, terraces and other outdoor spaces, and staff satisfaction has improved by 10% since completion. The development also enhances the public realm, introducing new public squares and strengthening connections between Moorgate and the Barbican.”
More than a workplace, Deutsche Bank at 21 Moorfields embodies the values of its occupier and reimagines the office as a place of collaboration, community and flexible use.
