Oliver Tyler, who led the project, said: “We are extremely pleased that 8 Bishopsgate has been selected by The Architect’s Company as The City Building of the Year. Being recognised by our peers, with input from the City planners, is always very special and whilst 8 Bishopsgate has won a number of industry awards, it is particularly rewarding for it to be recognised for the quality of its architecture.”
Publicly accessible amenities account for 5% of the building, starting with the ground floor public café, upper floor mezzanine café with lounges and break-out workspaces, and a 200-seat auditorium with retractable seating. Level 26 is dedicated to a restaurant, cafe, and bar accessible to all tenants. The building steps back at this level, providing a generous terrace for people to enjoy. The Lookout is a free public viewing gallery on the 50th floor, with views of the City 200m below.
The Lookout is an admission-free public viewing gallery with uninterrupted views of many City landmarks. The public can book tickets for free in advance online, or if space is available, walk-in without booking. Since opening in August, it has become a popular local attraction, with time slots booked out several months in advance and over 40,000 visitors to date.
